The United Nations Consul General to Nigeria, Will Stevens, has commended the government of Akwa Ibom State for its efforts in handling the scourge of COVID-19, HIV/AIDS and climate change issues in the state.

This is just as he said that the United States was committed to the economic growth and prosperity of Nigeria.

Stevens spoke when he paid a courtesy visit to the state governor, Umo Eno, in Uyo, the state capital.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ekerete Udoh, on Saturday.

While reiterating the call for robust partnership earlier made by U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken during his visit to Nigeria last week, Stevens stated that the United States is committed to the economic growth and prosperity of Nigeria and her subnationals.

He said, “The government of Akwa Ibom state has done incredible work to combat the scourge of COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS, as well as issues around climate change and the extractive industry.

“The United States is committed to the economic growth and prosperity of Nigeria and her subnationals”.

He also congratulated the governor for emerging victorious at the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial polls, which he stated were “free, fair and credible.”

In his remarks, Governor Eno thanked the US Envoy for finding time to visit the state, adding that his government was ready to “collaborate further with American investors in the areas of oil and gas, blue economy, agriculture and tourism.”

Eno later conducted an inspection of the Model Primary School at Christ the King School, which is due for commissioning at the end of this month.

While in the school, the Consul General commended the governor for his vision in education and other developmental strides he has recorded since his inauguration eight months ago.
