This Friday there will probably be a new world record in Paris: the original drawing of the title motif of Hergé’s album “Tim in America” from 1942 will be sold at the Artcurial auction house. The estimate is moderate at 2.3 to 3.2 million. A preliminary study for the “Tim” album “Der Blaue Lotus” brought 3.2 million almost exactly a year ago: the current record for a comic original. The “Lotus” drawing from 1936 was in color, but it was only a study, and the motif was folded three times. In contrast, this is one of the title motifs that has become iconic, in perfect condition and from a time when the grand master of the European comics did not yet maintain a studio in which assistants supported him.
