Imagine being born in Leipzig in 1976 and having your first day at work as a manager at Germany’s largest tabloid medium next Monday. Moreover, imagine that the future boss and CEO of the responsible publishing house were just starting out spicy news reached the public, including, for example, this: “My mother always said so. The ossis will never become democrats. Perhaps one should turn the former GDR into an agricultural and production zone with a standard wage.” Or this one: “The ossis are either communists or fascists. They don’t do it in between. Disgusting.” Imagine all of this. How do you think it would feel to walk into work and look that CEO in the eye?
