The British lawyer and professor Philippe Sands deals with Eastern European and international law – and as chairman of the English PEN supports persecuted Russian writers. Shortly before the pandemic, he published the book “Return to Lemberg” (S. Fischer), an acclaimed tale of the birth of modern international law after World War II, told through his own Ukrainian-Jewish ancestors.
