As the two presenters Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams the nominees for the best Movie announce, the triumph and surprise for the Germans was complete: “Nothing new in the West”, Edward Berger’s Netflix adaptation of the famous Erich Maria Remarque novelenters the race in the king category – as well as in eight other categories, as Best Foreign Film and for camera, make-up, production design, sound, visual effects, adapted screenplay and for the music by Volker Bertelmann. There has never been such a success for German cinema at the Oscars.
