“The Mirisch Corporation presents”: Whenever this production company appeared in the opening credits of a film, you knew what to expect: solid, high-class, gripping films. Good taste the producer Walter Mirisch himself named the essential criterion for his work. Quite creative work, choosing the right topic, the right employees – and then giving them the greatest possible freedom. Shortly after founding their Mirisch Corporation in 1957, Walter, his brother Marvin and half-brother Harold had three consecutive hits: “Some Like It Hot”, 1959, by Billy Wilder and with Marilyn Monroe, the westerns “The Magnificent Seven,” 1960 by John Sturges, and “West Side Story,” by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, 1961. Movies that grossed millions of dollars at the box office and quickly became classics.
