Markus Schroer: “Geosociology” – Culture

There are two fronts on which the Marburg sociologist Markus Schroer positions himself: on the ecological, using the term Anthropocene to speak of the danger of human destruction of the earth, and on the sociological, on which he criticizes the history of his subject, which focuses solely and exclusively on how people interact with each other and has lost sight of how people live together with plants and animals. Schroer shows this with the concept of “world society”, with which the sociological observation jumps directly from the coexistence of smaller and larger groups to the whole world, without lingering even for a moment on plants and animals, i.e. the earthly existence of human life and its prerequisites to take into account.
