With her novel “Dschinns” Fatma Aydemir, 37, provided a literary highlight in 2022. She tells a haunting story about a German-Turkish Family: After the death of father Hüseyin, who wanted to spend his retirement in Istanbul, the family travels to the funeral. Aydemir describes how different life plans of family members collide, she writes about trying to understand each other, about failure, about silence. “Dschinns” (Hanser) was shortlisted for the German Book Prize 2022 and has now been adapted by Nurkan Erpulat at the Gorki Theater in Berlin. Shortly before the premiere, the earth shook in Turkey and Syria – as at the end of the novel.
