Almost a year after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, there is no end to the war in sight – and quite a few are calling for peace, like Left Party leader Amira Mohamed Ali. But the problem is still Vladimir Putin.

People are demanding peace – like Alice Schwarzer and Sahra Wagenknecht in theirs “Manifesto for Peace”like the left parliamentary group leader Amira Mohamed Ali on Monday evening “Hard but fair” – and what do they reap for it? Mockery, malice, at best a shake of the head. They mean well, and they think above all of the Ukrainians, who are suffering so much. Doesn’t an end to the war have to be the “top priority” (Ali) out of pure compassion? Don’t we need an “international peace initiative” immediately, as the left-wing politician demands in “Hart aber fair”?
