For 27 years, the NDR has been consistently running down the ESC – and now, after the umpteenth defeat, it is becoming indifferent. Why not let an institution take over in which young people sometimes make decisions?
In the largest international music competition with 160 million spectators, we have already come last again, we know that by now. The reaction the day after: The ESC it’s stupid anyway, it’s not about music at all, ridiculous. This country has been stuck in this endless loop of self-appeasement, which can hardly hide the badly hurt German feelings, for years. Since 2015, Germany has finished last four times in the Eurovision Song Contest, third place three times, and fourth place in 2018. So now last again. “Maybe that doesn’t really matter,” he writes Mirror in one of his more than 20 texts for this year’s Song Contest, and this number alone of course proves the quote to be a lie. No more self-deception, the Song Contest doesn’t matter a bit.
