Exhibitions should be accessible, inclusive and relevant – but there are often problems with the implementation. “Wonderwalls” in Düsseldorf and “Susanna” in Cologne show how it’s done.

The front wall of a gallery in the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf is hung as densely as a baroque chamber of curiosities: portraits of Hitler with a Dalí moustache, Donald Trump as a clown, a framed poster that demands: “Don’t work with assholes”. “Heavy Heads” arranged one on top of the other, three sculptures by the Düsseldorf artist Steffen Mumm (tag name “Hoker One”). Was he perhaps influenced by Constantin Brâncuși…?
