The ARD men didn’t quite trust their own idea. To be on the safe side, they called in a replacement speaker on June 16, 1976 – just in case, as Dagmar Berghoff later said, “that I passed out or couldn’t speak from fright”. Karl-Heinz Köpcke, as “Mr daily News” A member of the Federal Republic’s television aristocracy, apparently had no idea that he would help the later “Miss Tagesschau” into office that day. At the time, Köpcke feared, Berghoff also reported that, with a woman as the news anchor, would open several gateways for greater harm to have.
